Potential Applications

Point of Care Testing Market

The Point-of-Care (POC) market in in-vitro diagnostic testing requires devices or systems that provide results quickly, whilst the patient is present, allowing results based treatment management.  The POC market segments include the professional market, those located in a hospital (intensive care, emergency room, operating room), physician’s offices, health screening clinics and pharmacies plus the over-the-counter market for home use.  The current estimated market for all POC tests is approximately $6 billion worldwide.

L3 Technology’s current lipid measurement system is designed for use by the professional market. Kalorama (April 2009) estimates that the professional market was $3.7 billion in 2008 and will grow to $5.7 billion by 2013.

The Company’s first product for lipid profile testing will tap into the growing cholesterol / lipid POC segment that is expected to exceed $500 million by 2013.  With the growing trend moving from centralised to decentralised testing there are many additional applications for the L3T POC system.

Platform Applications under consideration

The current technology platform utilises steady state fluorescence, which is incredibly versatile, inexpensive to manufacture and robust. The technology can be applied to a wide range of analytes. The Company is planning to extend its test menu to accommodate the needs of its customer target market.  The following groups of tests are being developed or planned for future development:

  • Other Lipid Profile tests

  • Diabetes Markers (Glucose and HbA1C)

  • Cardiac Enzymes and Markers

  • Renal Enzymes and Markers

  • Liver Enzymes and Markers

  • Thyroid Function Tests
